We are so excited to bring y’all a series about YOU and YOUR stock tank pools! We love seeing everything you do with your pools and the areas surrounding them and we want to share it with everyone!

First up is Amy from Stoneway Swim Club! Her stock tank pool caught our attention last year and we fell in love with their whole situation- the pool, the deck, the branding! Her and her husband are both graphic designers at @rogersdesignhouse so it was only natural that they start a swim club and create a logo. They even have branded koozies! And we love it. Read all about her stock tank pool and setup below, and don’t forget to give her a follow over on IG- @stonewayswimclub.

What made you want a stock tank pool? We live in Austin and wanted a place to cool off in and building a traditional pool was out of our budget. So I started to research other ideas and bam! Stock tank pools were the perfect size and depth I was looking for because I’m not so much into “swimming” as I am sitting and chilling.

What is your favorite thing about your stock tank pool and surrounding space? I grew up with a backyard pool and I just love having a place to float around in and stare at the clouds. It brings me back to my childhood.

Did you build your deck right away or was that an addition? The deck was always part of the plan just because we were going to put the tank close to an existing deck. I wanted something that someone could sit on the side and just put their feet in.

How long did it take you to set yours up? We built the deck in 2 days and set the tank up in the middle of it because it was so hot!

Have you had any issues? We have been really lucky - no issues and luckily no rust showing.

How do you keep your pool clean? I’m the resident pool girl of the house and I skim the pool almost everyday. We drain our pool once fall comes and try to wait to fill it up in the spring until all the oak pollen has dropped. Learning the seasons of your surrounding trees and stock tank pool location can do a lot to keep your pool clean. We use chlorine in a floating rubber ducky floaty called Stoneway Steve.

How often do you use your pool? We are in it every weekend during the summer. Sometimes we can have weekday swims after work.

What kind of paint did you use? I painted our pool white with an enamel paint from Sherwin Williams. I wanted something that would stick to brand new galvanized Metal. So far so good! It’s held up really really well.

Do have any more upgrades planned? This year we got a cantilevered umbrella to keep it shaded in the middle of the day and it has been the best!! Our pool gets noon-4pm direct sun, so the umbrella really helps the water stay cool and refreshing and also not blinding you from the reflection of the metal bottom.

What’s your favorite thing about your stock tank pool? I love how a stock tank can give you the enjoyment of a pool but is way easier to keep clean and maintain. And it’s cheap! I also love that our account has inspired others to get one - we have helped a handful of friends navigate the set up. Spreading the stock tank joy!

What is your favorite pool accessory? We created a little fountain insert into the jet inlet side out of a plastic watering nozzle and some PVC fittings. When it’s on it creates a really nice water feature sound and also helps aerate the water which also keeps it cool.

What’s the most people you’ve had in your pool? I had my book club of 10 people in it at once. Plenty of room to sit and discuss the latest reads!

Any other information you think might be helpful to others who will be setting up a stock tank pool? Just don’t be fooled into thinking that because it’s small, a stock tank pool won’t have maintenance. This is definitely a project to love and take care of - you will extend the life of the pool if you do. Pool chemistry is important and was fun to learn and there’s a ton of info online to help keep your water crystal clear. For set up, I always direct people to y’all’s tutorials because I think they are the best. Hey Wanderer was my inspiration and guide through the whole process!
